Put Yourself on the Front-Burner

“We often put our needs on the back-burner.”

I began my career as a Parent Educator. Throughout parenting sessions, I realized that I needed to nurture “the adult” in order for parents to adequately raise their children. It is so common for loving parents to strive to become better parents by focusing fully on their child’s needs. However, the most powerful family change occurs when parents realize that, “If you want to be a great parent, you need to take care of yourself.” That turning point guides my clients onward to better lives as both parents and individuals.

That same belief applies to professionals; the more professionals take care of themselves and become self -aware, the more they recognize their potential and seize their opportunities for success in business and all of life . Tunnel-vision about improving my business or job, without focus on me as a significant individual is a misguided endeavor.

Put yourself on the front-burner when you:

1- Take a full portion for you . Whether it’s food at the dinner table, time at the end of the day, or choosing what to do on Saturday afternoon, remember that you count! Don’t get lost in a family or a job.

2- Don’t underestimate the value of solitude. Everybody needs a little time alone; to be still and let our hearts and minds catch up with each other. Put solitude on your calendar.

3- Own your life . It’s impossible to control someone else’s life or their happiness, but you have the power to make great decisions for your life and your happiness. Make one decision today that brings a smile to your face.
