Remember How to Love
Today I’m inspired to let you know how much I care for you. We both know you aren’t perfect – not by a long shot! But there are things about you that I just love. Things like glances only you give, lines that only you say, gestures only you make, ideas only you think of, and a laugh like no one else. Is it
any wonder I’m attracted to you?
Take a moment to let that sink in. Picture yourself in a more specific way than you have in the past. What could it be that I’m remembering about you?
- Glances? Do you wink? Do you raise one eyebrow? What makes your glance unique to you?
- Lines? What do you say when you’re stumped or don’t know what to say? One of my dad’s friends used to say, “Wouldn’t that frost you?” That line still makes me smile and picture him. What’s your signature phrase?
- Gestures? How do you communicate without words? Do you use your hands? Are you a pat-on-the-back guy? Do you tip your head? Do you shrug your shoulders? Those things are memorable to me.
- Ideas? What do people expect from you in a conversation? Analysis? Outside-the-box creativity? Tension-breaking humor? Whatever it is, it’s valuable and I count on it.
- Your laugh? Are you aware of the positive power your genuine laugh adds to life? When you laugh, I feel accepted in your presence. I feel like your guard is down and you’re being real. I love that.
Self-awareness is the first step in healthy self-acceptance. Take time to notice the parts of you that are charming, warm, and memorable. Own your uniqueness! This deepest vein of accepting and loving yourself leads to qualities of confidence, resilience, and optimism. Remember how to love – yourself. After that, loving others gets much easier.
